Garden Route Surf Trip #35

24 November – 8 December 2018

Enjoying a view that can only be enjoyed from the top of Table Mountain!

Summer was getting into full swing by the time we headed into #SurfTrip35 and we did not waste a moment getting into the full swing of summer!

4_6041697832056914979-01

We’re super proud of the latest addition to our team-kit, our very own stylishly customized surf bus!

We started #SurfTrip35 with a drive-through of the spectacular Cape Peninsula enjoying some of nature’s most breathtaking views…

20181125_125028

The Cape of Good Hope, at Cape Point, historical points of interest don’t get much more spectacular than this!

We then headed into the Hemel-en-Aarde Vallei (Valley of Heaven and Earth) to sample some local wines, before cruising into the semi-secluded Garden Route and the magic of Buffels Bay.

20181126_121228

Cruising through the vineyards of the Cape, a visit to Cape Town and the Garden Route isn’t complete without a wine-farm wine-tasting experience.

And Buffels never disappoints us! We scored some fantastic surf, perfect for learning, progressing into the line-up, and ultimately ripping! Buffels really is a surfer’s dream come true!
jzh_1214-01

There are so many waves in Buffels, and so few surfers, that sometimes it’s almost painful to watch so many beautiful waves empty waves… unless you’re the one surfing!

We also combined our daily surfing with several excursions and explored all the best adventures the Garden Route has to offer.

And no Garden Route Surf Trip with Unravel Surf Travel would be complete without visiting The Surfer Kids, a non-profit outreach initiative empowering some of the poorest and most marginalized local children through surfing. Guests on #SurfTrip34 had the unique opportunity to assist The Surfer Kids’ Surf Instructors with a day of surf coaching and fun!

As an optional extra we also always offer daily Yoga practice with a qualified instructor on all our Surf Trips, to help relieve tired muscles and focus the mind on enjoying every moment.

jzh_8534-01

Yoga forms a natural part of our Surf Trips and ultimately feeds back into our surfing by allowing us to spend more time in the water!

#SurfTrip34 was an awesome experience and we said goodbye to another super-stoked and surfed-out group of happy clients!

One of the most spectacular sunsets you’ll ever see is from the top of Table Mountain.

After a winter break (during which we headed to the warm sub-tropical waters of Mozambique for #SurfTrip33) we returned with summer to our beloved Garden Route, to start #SurfTrip34 on Africa’s Southern most tip!

img-20181109-wa0036

While we work many other excursions and day-trips into our program, surfing will always be at the center of what we do.

We started #SurfTrip34 with a drive-through of the spectacular Cape Peninsula enjoying some of nature’s most breathtaking views…

And Buffels never disappoints us! We scored some fantastic surf, perfect for learning, progressing into the line-up, and ultimately ripping! Buffels really is a surfer’s dream come true!

Cruising the Buffels line-up, there are several different spots to choose from, all within walking distance from one another and all suitable for different levels of surfing.

We also combined our daily surfing with several excursions and explored all the best adventures the Garden Route has to offer.

Paragliding is one of the cleanest and most fun filled ways to experience an adrenaline rush while also appreciating the incredible beauty of the Garden Route.

A day with The Surfer Kids NPO is fun, but is also serves as a healthy reminder of the reality of life for millions of people living in this beautiful country, and at the same time it’s a great way to support an initiative that works tirelessly to make a positive difference in the lives of those who need it most.

As an optional extra we also always offer daily Yoga practice with a qualified instructor on all our Surf Trips, to help relieve tired muscles and focus the mind on enjoying every moment.

Mozambique Surf Trip #33

We love going to Mozambique!!! It involves a lot more planning and preparation than our other trips, but we always look forward to doing this trip!!!

After finalizing all the logistics our 2018 Mozambique Surf Trip could finally start on the 21st of July 2018!!!

Unravel Surf Travel - Surf Trip #33

Crossing the border into Mozambique, there’s definitely a change in the air. It’s immediately obvious that you’re in a different country. There’s no doubt about it… This is Africa.

And Africa can come as a shock. There’s a sense of unruly freedom here that can be daunting.

Or… incredibly liberating.

Frelimo Monument in Tofinho Mozambique

In Mozambique very few things happen the way they’re expected to happen. Unless we expect the unexpected. It’s unfettered and unhampered. And sometimes untethered.

That’s why we love it! This place is unlike anywhere else.

Tofo Fisherman

Our annual Mozambique Surf Trip also includes a two-day visit to the Kruger National Park, one of the biggest nature reserves on the African continent.

Kruger National Park

Traveling through the Kruger Park is an awesome way to see Africa’s wild animals, in their natural environment.

Kruger National Park

After exploring the Kruger Park, we cross the border into Mozambique and Tofo is our final destination…

If you enjoy beach-front accommodation then this is just for you. It doesn’t get much closer to the ocean than here in Tofo.

And this is also where the surfing magic happens!

Tofo is ideal for all surfing levels, from complete beginner to advanced. There are different breaks to suit different levels and it’s one of those places where there’s a wave for everyone!

39064432_2327138727312960_5239534387980140544_o

The beaches are absolutely amazing, with endless stretches of white sand, a glorious sunrise and sunset, and crystal-clear blue warm water.

Other highlights on our Mozambique Surf Trip include an ocean safari with spectacular views of dolphins and Humpback whales.

photo_2018-07-28_18-50-22

Humpback whales migrate between Mozambique and Antarctica every year.

They spend the winter in Mozambique to give birth and then travel down to Antarctica for the summer, to feed in the cold nutrient-rich waters there.

38993035_2327138173979682_4579380107650531328_o

Another highlight is our village experience, which is completely unique to our Mozambique Surf Trip.

And, off course, we did Yoga on the beach…

Beach Yoga is a constant on all our Surf Trips and it’s a great way to relieve tired muscles, worn out from surfing every day…

This was another fantastic experience and we’re already looking forward to doing another Mozambique Surf Trip in 2019 !!!

Garden Route Surf Trip #32

10 – 24 Mar 2018

After a super-stoked and surfed-out experience with #SurfTrip29 and #SurfTrip30 in late 2017, we took a much needed break and left the Garden Route, before the local crowds that move with the school holidays packed the beaches full. But it never lasts too long and once the calm vibe of our laid-back coastline was restored, we headed into 2018 with #SurfTrip31 and #SurTrip32 lined up and ready to go!!

IMG_20180311_192819_065-01

We started #SurfTrip32 with a drive-through of the spectacular Hemel-en-Aarde Vallei (Valley of Heaven and Earth) to sample some local wines and then headed East, toward the semi-secluded Garden Route and the magic of Buffels Bay. We spent the next 10 days surfing as often as possible, soaking up every moment of surf that Buffels had to offer.

IMG_20180321_091048_492

And, as always, we scored some really awesome waves, perfect for learning to surf and progressing further into the line-up!

Mozambique Surf Trip #28

We did it again! After hugely successful Surf Trips to Mozambique in 2014 and 2015, we took a break in 2016 for the birth of our baby boy, Kando.

But we were always very eager to return and in 2017 we finally had that opportunity!

20170805_165604

Crossing the border into Mozambique, there’s definitely a change in the air. It’s immediately obvious that you’re in a different country. This really is Africa.

Africa can come as a shock to travelers from more developed parts of the world. There’s a general lawlessness here that can be daunting, but it also creates a sense of freedom…

IMG_20170808_134525_668

And in Mozambique very few things happen the way they’re supposed to happen. It can be scary, but it’s also freedom. Unfettered and unhampered. And sometimes untethered.

That’s why we love it! This place is unlike anywhere else.

Our (almost) annual Mozambique Surf Trip also includes a two-day visit to the Kruger National Park, one of the biggest nature reserves on the African continent.

Traveling through the Kruger is an awesome way to see all Africa’s greatest animals, in their in the natural environment and, as always, we were blessed with some awesome sightings!

After visiting the Kruger Park, Tofo in Mozambique is our final destination and that’s where the surfing magic happens!

Tofo is ideal for all surfing levels, from complete beginner to super advanced. There are different breaks to suit different levels and it’s one of those places where everyone will be happy regardless of what they’re looking for.

And the beaches are absolutely amazing, with endless stretches of white sand, glorious sunsets and crystal-clear warm water.

Other highlights included an ocean safari, with spectacular views of dolphins, Humpback and Southern Right whales. Humpback and Southern Wright whales migrate between Mozambique and Antarctica every year. They spend the winter in Mozambique, to give birth, and then travel down to Antarctica for the summer, to feed in the cold nutrient-rich water there.

DCIM100GOPROG0020821.

Another highlights is the a village tour that is completely unique to our Mozambique Surf Trip.

And off course we did Yoga on the beach. This is a staple of all our Surf Tours and it’s a great way to relieve tired muscles, worn out from surfing many hours every day…

This was another fantastic experience and we’re already looking forward to doing another Mozambique Surf Trip in 2018 !!!

But if Mozambique isn’t your thing, we also offer two other itineraries in Southern Africa. For more info check our other Surf Trips!

KwaZulu-Natal Surf Trip #27

This was a special Surf Trip because it was the first time that our eight-month old baby boy Kando joined Unravel Surf Travel for the full duration of a trip. And he loved it!!!

Jenya Zhivaleva Photography.www.yourfotostory.com

It was the third time that we returned to KwaZulu-Natal for a Surf Trip and for the third year in a row we traveled with a group of six clients, all eager to learn surfing while exploring the natural beauty of Southern Africa.

Jenya Zhivaleva Photography.www.yourfotostory.com

So that’s exactly what we did. We visited the Isimangaliso Wetland Park and Hluhluwe-Imfolozi, the oldest nature reserve in South Africa and home to Africa’s big five.

Jenya Zhivaleva Photography.www.yourfotostory.com

We traversed Oribi Gorge hunting for wild adventures !!!

Jenya Zhivaleva Photography.www.yourfotostory.com

And we surfed unspoilt beaches with empty line-ups where powerful waves teach progressive surfing skills.

Jenya Zhivaleva Photography.www.yourfotostory.com

Also, none of our surf trips would be complete without a daily healthy dose of Yoga, breathing clean fresh air, releasing tension from mind and body.

Jenya Zhivaleva Photography.www.yourfotostory.com

All in all, this was another incredible surf trip with Unravel Surf Travel and we’re happy to have sent home another group of stoked surfers, all of whom discovered something new while traveling with us.

CHECK HERE for more information, a detailed description and a day-to-day itinerary of our KwaZulu-Natal Surf Trips.

We’re looking forward to our next Surf Trip to Mozambique, from 30 July to 13 August !!! For more information send an email to: info@unravelsurftravel.com
