Unravel Surf Travel TOUR No.20
Unravel Surf Travel ventured into new territory with this exciting expeditionary Surf Tour to KwaZulu-Natal! This was our maiden Surf Expedition to this area and it was a great success! We’ll definitely be back for another Surf Tour to KwaZulu-Natal in 2016!
We met our group at the new King Shaka International Airport north of Durban and drove to Umzumbe, on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal. There we based ourselves at Umzumbe Surf House and our hosts, Alli and Rich, took exceptional care of us! It’s an awesome spot run by two very cool people!
We spent the next week surfing everyday in the warm water of the Indian Ocean and we were blessed with some amazing waves at the friendly Umzumbe beach-break!
Everybody had great rides and, off course, our in-house photographer made sure that everyone got some awesome photos of themselves riding these beautiful waves.
In between surfing awesome waves we went on some great excursions to explore the area. We started with an insightful Cultural Tour, to see the natural beauty surrounding Umzumbe Village and to meet some of the locals who live there.
Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve, with it’s suspension bridge, gorge jump, zip-slides and overhanging rock was another incredible highlight! We had loads of fun with all the adventure activities on offer there, surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of KwaZulu-Natal.
And off course there was always more surfing to be done! For an entire week the waves just wouldn’t stop coming! We were blessed with lots of sunshine, offshore winds and plentiful waves!
Whenever we had a moment to relax, we took advantage of this perfect location to do some Yoga, taking in the rejuvenating fresh air blown in by a fresh Indian Ocean breeze…
After we finally had our fill of good waves, we said goodbye to our hosts in Umzumbe and left for St Lucia where we spent two days exploring the Isimangaliso Wetland Park, a world heritage site, and in particular Lake St Lucia, where we met many families of hippos on a gorgeous sunset boat cruise.
We also visited the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Nature Reserve and saw spectacular herds of Elephant, Giraffe, Rhino and many more, all living within their unspoilt natural habitat.
All in all this was another incredible journey, for ourselves and clients on Tour with us! We are very grateful for the friends we made and the experiences we had together! And we’ll definitely return to KwaZulu-Natal for another Surf Tour in 2016!
