Come celebrate the new year on the edge of the African continent, surrounded by nature, history, adventure and fun waves!”

Mossel Bay is famous for being the place where 15th century explorer, Bartholomeu Diaz, first stepped onto dry land after becoming the first European to sail past the southern most tip of Africa.

What’s perhaps less well known, but equally important, is that Mossel Bay is where archeologists have discovered the world’s oldest evidence for modern human behavior, including art and tool making dating back more than 120,000 years!

And, off course, there’s the warm Indian Ocean with long open sandy beaches, reefs and points, with fun waves for everyone!

As part of this trip we also visit Cape Town – one of the most beautiful cities in the world, where many cultures and customs are intertwined and where colonial architecture is framed by natural wonders.

Approximate Program*

* We don’t work with rigid schedules. This is a very flexible indication only, to give you an idea of what the possibilities are. The final program will depend on surfing conditions.

Day 1

Pick up at George Airport and check-in at the guesthouse

Our destination is the Pinnacle Point Estate, perched on top of cliffs overlooking the Indian Ocean and the caves where the world’s most ancient remains of “modern man” were discovered.

The atmosphere here is relaxed, quiet and comfortable. But for those who prefer to celebrate the new year with a little more sound and excitement, the vibrant fishing town of Mossel Bay is always nearby!

Day 2

Get ready for the first surf session! Our primary surf spot will be Diaz Beach, a friendly wave breaking on a long and sandy beach.

After our first surf session we’ll go for a walking excursion around Mossel Bay, a picturesque town of approximately 70,000 people, overlooking a large bay of sandy beaches that stretches into the distance, ending in cliffs at Glentana 20km further down the coast.

It’s in this bay that Bartolomeu Dias landed in 1488, after becoming the first European to sail around the southern tip of Africa.

And if you’re looking for a place to celebrate your first wave, there’s plenty of clubs, bars and restaurants around this vibrant little town!

Day 3

We’ll spend the day surfing and chilling on the beach, followed by an early dinner at a local beach restaurant.

Put your toes in the sand and eat as much delicious fresh seafood as you like! Had enough to eat? Take quick walk down to the empty beach and chat with a local fisherman. But don’t take too long. There’s still a six course meal waiting for you, all of it cooked over open fire and served buffet style.

Day 4

Our morning surf session is followed by a video analysis, where we examine your surfing technique and correct mistakes.

We spend the afternoon on a Safari Game Drive at a local private game reserve. You’ll see Elephants, Giraffes, Rhino, Buffalo, Zebra, Lions and various antelope species such as Kudu and Eland, all in free, open and natural surroundings.

Day 5

By now the tide has shifted and our surf session is moved to the afternoon, utilizing the best available conditions. Our coaches have decades of surfing experience and knows exactly when the waves will be at their best!

While we wait for the tide we head off to go skydiving. If that’s a little too extreme for you, you can try the world’s longest zip-line over the ocean.

Day 6

Today we’re going on a little road-trip! Our first stop is a farmer’s market where we’ll have a breakfast of local organic produce. Next up, we head for a paragliding adventure, gliding silently over beautiful vistas.

Finally we’ll visit Buffalo Bay, for a surf session in a protected nature reserve!

The area surrounding Buffalo Bay was declared as the Goukamma nature reserve in 1992, putting a moratorium on all new development. Today almost three decades later, the town looks much the same it did three decades ago, which is no more than a quiet collection of family owned beach houses, one small shop and beautiful beaches on both sides of the small peninsula.

Day 7

Yesterday was a long day on the road, so we’ll take it a little easier today. Or not! First up is an early morning surf session, followed by another video analysis to examine surfing technique and correct mistakes.

The afternoon is spent on an excursion starting from our doorstep. The Point of Human Origins lies just below the cliffs whose view we’ve spent so much time savoring these last few days. Here we’ll visit a world renowned archaeological site which yielded the earliest known evidence for modern human behavior.

Day 8

It’s time to head back to Cape Town. It’s quite a drive, but fortunately the scenery en-route is beautiful and we can stop often to stretch our legs and grab a coffee and a snacks. Our drive takes us past mountain ranges, harvested fields small roadside towns. Until we hit Sir Lowry’s Pass and then the Mother City.

En-route we stop at a Cape Winelands wine farm, to taste some local wines. This includes a cellar tour to witness the wine making process followed by a gourmet wine-farm lunch.

Day 9

We explore the streets of Cape Town and in the afternoon we visit the top of Table Mountain, one of the new seven wonders of nature!

Day 10

We depart early for a Cape Peninsula sightseeing tour. Along the way we stop at view-points including Chapman’s Peak and Misty Cliffs. We visit the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve and we witness the magnificent views from the old lighthouse at Cape Point! We also visit Simon’s Town and the Boulders Beach Penguin Colony.

Day 11

Drop off at Cape Town International Airport. Depending on flight schedules, if time permits, we do a historical walking tour around Cape Town city center.
