Unravel Surf Travel organized and hosted another awesome SURF & Yoga Tour in March 2015 !!!
We were fortunate to receive another incredible group of travelling surfers and surf-enthusiasts, because, while we organize the Tour, ultimately it’s the people who make the Tour.
After arrival in Cape Town, we travelled up the Garden Route and based ourselves in the idyllic Buffels Bay, where only a small collection of holiday-beach-houses line numerous quality surf-breaks.
Set in the Goukamma Nature Reserve, Buffels Bay is pristine. It’s protected status not only preserves the beautiful beaches and surrounding nature, but also gives it that unique beach-vibe. The ultimate surfing playground in an unspoilt paradise.
Our days in Buffels Bay were centred around surfing, surfing and more surfing, under the expert guidance of our resident Surf Instructors !!!
We spent countless hours in the water, enjoying the un-crowded waves. And when we could surf no more, we enjoyed the serenity of this unique setting, truly the gem of the Garden Route.
To relieve our tired muscles and we practised Yoga with a qualified local Yoga Instructor. Which helped us to spend even more time surfing! Maximizing whatever energy we could harness, to be spent in the ocean.
On those days that surfing conditions weren’t ideal we made some time to explore the Garden Route and partake in the finest scenery and adventure this incredible coastline has to offer.
A Safari Game Drive at a beautiful Game Reserve was first on the menu !!!
And, speaking of menu’s… Eating GOOD food is obviously a very important requirement to keep hungry surfers going, surfing all day every day !!!
We pride ourselves on the quality food we provide on Surf Tour.
We cater for meat-lovers, vegans and vegetarians, and we’re building a reputation for exceptional quality, taste and variety.
Our only requirement is that you eat as much as you need, to power yourself for the next day’s surfing!
Because on Surf Tour with Unravel Surf Travel there’s one thing we make sure of: you surf plenty of the best waves, the finest selection of what’s on offer !!!
To add some variety to our board-riding platter, we also tried sand-boarding. And we discovered just how much sand it takes to make the biggest sand dune in South Africa…
Speeding down those dunes were awesome fun !!! … but three days later we were still shaking off the sand… Which, off course, isn’t really a problem if you’re surfing everyday anyway !!!
We also visited the world’s highest Bridge Bungee Jump, at the Bloukrans Bridge, where the craziest people in the group got their adrenaline pumping…
… by jumping into the 216m abyss below !!!
To calm things we down a bit, we mellowed out with unforgettable sunset-drumming sessions on the beach, with a local expert drummer! Drumming to the combined rhythm of our hearts and waves breaking against rocks…
And off course, as is customary on every Unravel Surf Travel Tour of the Garden Route, we enjoyed a day of life-enriching-fun with The Surfer Kids NON-Profit, a local Non-Profit organization, supported by Unravel Surf Travel.
The Surfer Kids NON-Profit makes the dream of surfing possible for a group of marginalised, but dedicated, young surfers from a local rural community. A place where few ever have the opportunity to otherwise follow their dreams…
We were scheduled to finish the Tour with a visit to Cape Town, to see some of the mother city’s most impressive sights… But before we did, we had one last absolutely incredible surf session…
And so we took on the long and winding road to Cape Town, eager to return to the Mother City.
It’s a long drive, but off course, travelling with Unravel Surf Travel, there’s never a dull moment on the road!
En route to Cape Town we stopped at a wine farm to sample some of the Western Cape’s finest wines. The wine maker took us on a cellar tour and explained all the nuances of harvesting grapes and making good wine. It was a great insight into that delicate process of extracting and balancing tastes.
The area is well known for having the ideal climate, perfectly suited to growing vineyards. Some of the world’s finest wines come from this particular wine farm. And to compliment their world class range of wines, the wine farm offers a menu inspired by the love of good food. The perfect companion to the perfect glass of wine!
Once in Cape Town we were eager to explore! With the expert guidance of our resident Tour Guide we set off on foot, walking to explore the inner city, sampling some of Cape Town’s notorious sights, as well as her hidden delights…
It was almost time to say goodbye, but not until we made one final trip, to experience the full extent of the Cape Peninsula’s awesome beauty.
High up on our list of priorities was the Cape of Good Hope, symbolically the southern most tip of Africa, and aesthetically the edge of a great continent!
And it’s easy to see why…
We ended the Surf Tour with goodbyes at the airport, but in our hearts and minds we were all still in that happiest of happy places… riding the ultimate wave…
A place where we will always return !!!
